Birchman Signs Exciting New Partnership with SWBTS & Bibelseminar Bonn

Before Jesus ascended to the Father after his resurrection, he gave the early church what is referred to by evangelicals, “The Great Commission,” found in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Missions, evangelism, and disciples are the ingredients that make up the great commission. The focus of this article is on the aspect of discipleship and more specifically what is undergirding discipleship, theological education. Someone has said, “So goes the seminaries, so goes the pastors; so goes the pastors, so goes the churches.” The foundation of a strong Bible believing church is a strong Bible believing pastor. Generally, those kinds of pastors have been trained at a conservative seminary.

Global Theological Innovation (GTI) initiated by Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary seeks to connect conservative churches with like-minded seminaries the world over. Good theological education results in strong churches to fulfill God’s mission on

earth. Seminaries need the partnership of strong churches to maintain their purpose to train pastors. Like the old proverb “one hand washes the other” these two entities work together to fulfill the great commission.

It is our privilege at Birchman to partner with the Bible Seminary in Bonn, Germany. This young seminary is on the forefront of a movement of God to bring renewal in the land of the reformation. Dr. Heinrich Derksen is the President of the institution and has been to Birchman several times, even bringing other German pastors to our church.

Birchman has had a relationship with the Bonn seminary for over a dozen years. In fact, several Germans were members of our church while they were studying at Southwestern Seminary preparing to teach in Bonn. Your pastor has even had the privilege of preaching at their biannual Bible conference held in Lemgo, Germany, and will be there again this June.

Birchman is a mission-minded church. Her influence is felt in places around the world. This is yet another way we are endeavoring to fulfill the great commission.
